Solidity is neither in the heaven of ideas or in the ground (fond) of meaning, it is neither above or below the appearances but at their joints… Merleau-Ponty 'The visible and the invisible’.

New Order is the inaugural plunge by Yr1 fine art students to bring their art into the real world. From painting, print, installation, film, performance and sculpture, New order, is both immersion and Collison with a world of increasing fragility, division and chaos. Toward a new configuration of thinking and ideas, the outcome is neither inside nor outside that arena, but perhaps the situation we experience being between it. New Order is a diverse array of discussions from large scale installations to multiple screen works; live performances on the opening evening to paintings you crawl into. The results are contrasting intensifications of space and time that challenge, question and debate conventions and perspectives on both what this new-found order maybe be like, and the role and scope it might play as each wrestles with that turbulent and uncertain present. Neither solutions nor critiques, these upcoming artists and their broad-ranging works offer up alternate but rock-solid conversations, albeit to be read between the lines. Nearest tube: Bermondsey/ plus 5mins walk
