London - 14th September

Updated: Apr 14, 2020

These points are a brief overview of the full trip to London on the 14th September, each point focuses on a separate gallery.

The Frith Street Gallery hosted Daniel Silver's exhibition. When entering the visitor is greeted by an installation of 5 figures. Draped in fabric and then recreated in marble, their clothed, armless bodies bring to mind Rodin's 'Monument to Balzac'. I think the idea of ready-made art is intriguing to the development in contemporary art, the figures have been further manipulated and changed by Silver, and are caught in various hieratic poses. I like the roughness of the mannequins showing the under layers through as it reflects a sense of a process in his work.

Martine Syms did her exhibition at the Sadie Coles gallery, in an attempt to remind the viewer of modern-day. Her interactive work, allows you to walk around the whole piece and connect in every way possible, no matter where you look there is always something to see. I think her use of space is effective, you can't miss anything when viewing her exhibition.

Conrad Shawcross - After the Explosion, Before the Collapse. The title of the works refers to the notion of the paradigm shift - a leap of imagination that jolts scientific enquiry forwards and collapses pre-existing notions of what is true. His mirrored, fragmented panels, invite the viewer in through the use of reflection, it incorporates all angles of the gallery through one piece due to its positioning.

Other exhibitions visited include Natalie Dray and Moshekwa Langa at Blain Southern, the National Gallery, Open Call Part 3, Subsidary Projects etc.
